As I’ve been scrolling through social media (like one does), I’ve been encountering the multitude of New Year’s messages, an overemphasis on resolutions, and fireworks and drone shows. I think it’s right and correct to wish each other good luck and good health in the new year, but the pressure to come up with an annual goal to start things off on the right foot reminds me of something.
Every new school semester when I was young was a fresh opportunity to do better, be more organized, and stay on top of things. I could last a week or two before my carefully-designed systems fell apart and my notebooks and binders were chaos. I was late turning in homework. I failed to study my hastily-taken (and often illegible) notes. And I blamed myself.
I have been so much kinder with my goals and myself these past few years. I don’t do annual anymore; I always have a few goals of various consequence going, and I try to set them so that I can attain them with regularity. I have a running goal of getting more movement in, because the body wants to move, and my muscles feel better when I am using them on a consistent basis.
“Consistent” is a word I have reclaimed by giving it a more personal definition, at least when I talk about my own goals. My brain tends to point me toward perfection, which I have tried and failed at so many times because it’s not realistic. It is an ideal. Being perfectly consistent makes me think “daily,” but I give myself grace. My version of “consistent” is doing something most of the time, which is a goal I can reach and it is absolutely good enough.
We are in a new year. We are still in the beginning of winter, the dark and cold months where it can feel harder to move, where our bodies might desire more rest. Maybe not the best time to throw all sorts of energy into a self-improvement project because social media says so. Take stock of your energy, see where you can best use it, and remember that you can reset at any time. A new year is just as arbitrary as a new moon, a new week, a new day.
Since the numbers on the calendar only mean anything because we agree that they do, I am extending my holiday promotion to January 31st. Every booking scheduled before February will generate a promo code for 50% off one session, and I will email it to you after your scheduled session concludes. You can use these codes anytime before the end of 2025.
Please note that the following rates are now in effect for my services:
Massage length | Regular price | PINKPURPLE |
60 minutes | $120 | $72 |
90 minutes | $160 | $96 |
I am also offering a discount of $10 (before PINKPURPLE or promos) for clients who pay using cash, e-transfer, or direct billing (meaning these rate changes do not affect you at all!). If you haven’t already discussed with me, I will investigate registration with your insurer so that I can offer you this convenience.
Finally, I will be absent on the following days in January:
- January 19th-26th
Technically, I’m not even working today, oops! Back to easing my way into the new year!
