Pride in the season of Fire

Heat waves come and heat waves go, we are definitely feeling that aspect of Fire this summer, as well as the remnants of hurricanes blasting through (the south of my youth meets Montreal in August) and flooding and water damage. More on the interplay of Fire and Water later. I want to explore socialization, gatherings, and the sound of laughter shared by loved ones. Think of a candle flame, alone; a crackling fire blending with a backdrop of conversation; and a roaring bonfire.

I hadn’t planned to do much for Pride, and a nasty cough encouraged me to do even less. Still, I was feeling well enough to poke my head out for Community Day, and what a crowd! My earplugs went in almost immediately and I navigated by the grace of my hand on my partner’s back: a reassuring presence, a physical anchor, and the calm of contact with a loved one. This was my limit, no question of the parade or drinks at a bar, and we got to have a nice brunch moment before I returned to my pet-sitting.

More often than not, I am definitely a lone candle flame. You can see it in the softness of my massage space, the cozy lighting I work in, and the quiet of the room if you’re not feeling conversational. However, I have my moments of wanting to shine brightly: on the stage telling a story, in the middle of friends doing the same, laughing and feeling the warmth of the element of Fire.

Where does your social fire usually burn? What does it mean when it burns lower or hotter? What levels energize you and drain you the most, and how can you organise your time to best make space for this? For instance, I drove up north for a friend’s wedding this weekend, and I am taking the day off after the revelries because I know I will need to recharge my social battery with cozy time and quiet.

Take a look at my remaining availability for this month if you need to set aside some time for yourself to recharge. Next month we’ll be transitioning into autumn and entering the element of Earth (which is also sometimes related to late summer). Associations include Venus, the suit of Pentacles in tarot, and the home and hearth.
