What should I wear during my session?
For table sessions, such as Swedish massage, you will undress to your level of comfort. You may keep on any garments you choose, but keep in mind that Swedish techniques utilise oil on skin. I recommend removing everything but your underwear, though you may remove this as well if you prefer. See info on the session for more on what to expect.
For floorwork sessions, such as Shiatsu, it is important to wear comfortable clothing that you can move and stretch in. You will remained clothed throughout the floorwork session.
Should I tip?
Tipping is not expected, but it is appreciated. Keep in mind that I work for myself and earn 100% of my fee, unlike massage therapists in spas or clinics who only earn a percentage or fixed rate. I also truly appreciate heartfelt thanks! If you want to offer gratitude in a non-monetary fashion, a positive Google review is always lovely.
How early should I arrive?
Please arrive as close to the time of your appointment as possible. I can usually accommodate up to 15 minutes in advance, especially if you text ahead. I aim to always be ready to welcome you at the appointed time.
What payment methods do you accept?
I prefer cash or e-transfer, and I am equipped to accept credit card payments through my booking system. Please note that StartBooking securely stores your card information and processes promo codes at the time of payment. I will issue your insurance receipt once the session has taken place.
Should I book a Swedish or Shiatsu session?
This is an excellent question to discuss over the phone! Swedish can get deep into muscle tissues and promote increased circulation, which can help with stress, soreness and fatigue, and encourage better quality of sleep. Shiatsu is a more holistic approach that aims to resolve congestion of vital energy and restore a healthy flow throughout the body. You may also reserve your time and we can discuss the day of your session; I can easily reconfigure my space based on your needs.
How do insurance payments work?
The receipts I issue after your session have all the information you need to make a claim with your insurer. I can also directly bill Sun Life if you have your insurance card (or contract and membership number, plus date of birth); please note there may be a balance due depending on your coverage.
Do you offer sliding scale?
I offer a discount to clients who are BIPOC, queer, fat, and neurominoric. If you are paying through my booking system, please use promo code PINKPURPLE any time of the year. Stay tuned for a future blog post on why I think fat folks specifically deserve easier access to massage therapy.
How do I get to your location?
I am located at 5197 boulevard Cavendish in NDG. Street parking is generally available, and I am less than half a block from stops servicing the following bus lines:
- 51
- 104
- 138
- 420
If you have the time and the weather is nice, I am a 25-minute walk from the Villa Maria and Snowdon métro stations, and you can pass a number of parks either way.
Can I talk during the session?
I can easily accommodate conversation during a tablework session, but it may be more difficult during floorwork. I may direct your breathing in any type of session to facilitate certain techniques or to promote relaxation. I may speak to check in with you or to bring your attention to a particular muscle or muscle group. I invite you to focus on the way your body feels during your session, to let your mind wander and float free, or even to sleep if you are so inclined (I take snoring as an immense compliment).
